You have a landlord and high housing costs because

1. You have zoning laws and heavily restrictive rights to where/what you can build
2. Permits massively restrictive to only allow certain outdated housing designs....
2b. then massive numbers of building regulations BECAUSE you're building in that design
3. Then tax on every material and all labor
4. Then taxes on the land purchase
5. Then taxes on the final property for living in it
6. The government brings in 100,000s of extra people to compete for whats left
7. The government has actively refuses to build sufficient housing no matter whose elected for 70 years

It is true that zoning laws in many cities only allow detacted single family houses or tall condo buildings to be built and nothing else, any residential property that is not a detacted single family house or a condo building is referred to as "missing middle" housing. The cities dont have space for single family residence. It is the downtown core!!! It is the MOST DENSELY populated area.

Your argument falls flat. Condos are apartments, the the property is owned by the building and they want the footage occupied.

You really should talk with a local realtor and TRULY understand zoning, market values, amd the role the DEVELOPER plays within the Community.

The suburbs are where single family detached houses are and the zoning only allows those kinds of houses and not other "missing middle" housing like duplexes, smaller apartment buildings, etc. That's the problem. I know detached houses are usually what's in demand the suburbs but that doesn't mean the government should ban other types of properties from being built.

Its is not banning. It is called PLANNING FOR A CITY!

I'm not talking about building detacted single family houses, I'm talking about building more affordable missing middle housing options such as multiplex housing, smaller apartment buildings that aren't tall condos, etc. The municipal governments ban missing middle housing and that's what drives up the cost of real estate, restrictions on what kind of properties can be built.

You developer will envision that and take it to the community, if they think ot is cost effective. Everyone has to win in the Affordable housing game. Developers arent in ot to give away homes.
