One man's "Needless," is another man's "Necessary." Tax the rich first. Make Warren Buffett pay the same tax rate as his secretary does. Raise the "Capitol Gains Tax," on short held assets to the same as income taxes, to keep people from hiding income to avoid paying their fair share. The people who benefit the most from the greatest economy in the world, should pay for the privilege.

Make Buffett take a salary like his secretary rather than dividends and stock options. Then we can talk apples to apples.

I guess you have never heard Buffett talk about how Billionaires like him get treated versus how his secretary gets treated by the tax system.

Of course I have. Also know that Buffett takes a salary of just $100,000 on which he pays payroll tax. The balance of his annual fortune is paid to him in stop options and dividends upon which he pays little or no taxes. He could easily take his pay in salary and pay the appropriate tax. He doesn't have to do that, he chooses not to do that.

He is no different than any other trader. But, you agree with me that they should not be allowed to hide income under different umbrellas to avoid taxes. My preference would be for a "graduated," flat tax that would be zero-percent for all people for income up to the poverty level. It would be 1% per $10,000 over that level and would top out at 20% for $200,000 and more above poverty level.

No, I believe everyone should be able to use the tax laws promulgated by the Congress of the United States. Your disagreement is with the congress that has been for stretches of time recently controlled by Democrats and Republicans. It is not my option nor yours to expect or ask that tax payers do otherwise.

"Promulgated," means to have enacted by decree or proclamation. I am sure that is not what you meant, regardless of whether that is the goal of certain members of Congress.
0 ups, 1y
It is exactly what I meant. Bills are passed, laws are promulgated. You are being too literal. For a law to be placed into effect and enforced, it must first be reduced to writing and published.

prom•ul•gate (ˈprɒm əlˌgeɪt, proʊˈmʌl geɪt)

v.t. -gat•ed, -gat•ing.
1. to put into operation (a law, decree of a court, etc.) by formal proclamation.
2. to set forth or teach publicly (a creed, doctrine, etc.

So what would you call continuing the insanity of spending more than we take in, to the point that our economy, and therefore the world's economy collapses, Larry?

The proposal increases the debt limit by $1.5 TRILLION dollars, and all the leftards can do is whine about not being able to spend money we don't have.

Somebody is taking crazy pills here, and it's not the republicans.

And believe me, I don't like supporting republicans unless I have to. They're just as responsible for this mess as the demotards.

Joe Biden's entire legislative career was built on his ability to reach across party lines, find areas of common interest and building consensus. But this is the first time the GOP was willing to let the economy collapse for political gain.

The Congress is required by the Constitution to pay the government's debt. Forcing a probable default would create the kind of crisis that requires presidents to declare Emergencies. Biden has allowed the GOP to back themselves into a corner where they can only be seen as crass politicians. They will force him to single handedly solve the problem they created. Of course, they could back down, pass a clean debt ceiling bill, then enter into budget negotiations.

No matter how you slice it the GOP will be forced to eat a fecal matter sandwich of their own making.

and btw, Larry, you said: "Joe Biden's entire legislative career was built on his ability to reach across party lines, find areas of common interest and building consensus."

Really? So who is the one who has said they won't negotiate??? Of course, it's Dementia Joe.

None of what you say withstands the slightest bit of scrutiny.

The shit sandwich is one we'll all have to take a bit from, and it's both parties who are at fault. Too bad some people are blind to that, most likely due to drinking the media's liberal koolaid.

"But this is the first time the GOP was willing to let the economy collapse for political gain."

When one looks at the world through only a leftist pair of lenses, they can convince themselves that it's one side or the other that's willing to let the economy collapse for political gain. Both sides are responsible. Why won't you admit that, Larry?

We may as well default now, while we at least have a slim chance of recovering from the economic chaos that would ensue, as opposed to reaching the point where our entire "income" (aka theft taxation) is used to service the debt, which is where the demotards are taking us. Try paying for your precious social programs when there is literally no money left for anything but servicing the debt, and see how much good they do.

"They will force him to single handedly solve the problem they created."

First of all, he can't solve shit. Also, the dems are somewhat more responsible for this than the pubs. But even if you believe the pubs are somewhat more responsible than the dems, it's absolutely not true that only one side is responsible. That's pure blind allegiance to leftist propaganda, and for you to blindly buy into that is really disappointing for me to see coming from you. While we disagree politically, I've always considered you a pretty reasonable and intelligent guy, but that seems to have just changed.

and btw, Dementia Joe's entire career was built on plagiarism and lies.

Since 1983, the "Borrow and Spend," deficits have been driven by "Republican Tax Cuts for the Rich." Ronald Reagan promised this would not happen. He promised that the taxes paid by workers who got jobs from enterprise spurred by money given to the rich, would more than pay for the cuts. We are still paying interest on Reagan's debt. The ongoing criticism of Democrats by the GOP has been that they are the party of "Tax and Spend." That would meet the definition of putting money in the bank before spending. Democratic Party presidents have actually cut the debt on their watches.

Yeah, I think you forgot to go back 4 years before RR and look at Carter’s horrible record on everything. Then go back and look at Ford & Nixon’s policies, and then Johnson’s. In terms of real numbers, RR is at the top by himself. Obama and Clinton are probably next. I’m not hating on dems - just put two in my top three based on actual data - but this one has nothing to do with us. We are tired of seeing our taxpayer money go to Ukraine. And immigrants. And lazy people. And other countries. We are fed up with stupid out of control spending. Remind me again how many times Biden threatened to shut down all government t programs, even veterans benefits and social security? Do I need to show you the video of him on the Senate floor making this speech?

Johnson cut the Excise Tax on American made products. That created jobs. It was the last tax cut to do so.

Nixon took us off the Gold Standard. He went to China and convinced them to export electronics instead of revolution. The OPEC Oil embargo happened on his watch. A gallon of gas jumped from 27-cents a gallon to a buck a gallon in short order. Inflation went on a four-year wild ride. He unsuccessfully tried to stop inflation with the first ever peace-time wage and price controls. Watergate ran him out of office, and Ford was a caretaker president.

Paul Volker, who Nixon put in charge of the Federal Reserve, decided to Whip Inflation on Carter's watch. He ran interest rates into the high teens, and then into the mid-twenties. Withe the economy in a death-fall, inflation subsided. People were miserable and Carter was out after one term.

John Stockman, Reagan's OMB Director, declared the Federal Government grossly under-leveraged. When the Kemp-Roth bill cut taxes 25%, Reagan did not cut spending. That was the beginning of the Borrow and Spend policy that got us from a National Debt of 900-Billion to well over 30-Trillion.

As people used to say. "That is the Reader's Digest version," from a guy who lived through it.
