The Catholic Church - the biggest in the world - has extensive records going back millenia.
That with a significantly higher number of priests provides for higher numbers than smaller, fractioned denominations, with little if any central book keeping. There is a lesser chance of records for some Protestant fella holding services in his living room than there is for a preist.
