Four companies, AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, Johnson & Johnson and McKesson, are paying $26-billion to settle opioid related lawsuits. Not one of those companies wrote the prescriptions themselves that ended up causing the problems. None of them misused the actual product or encouraged others to misuse it. They are accused of pushing the idea that opioids were "safe." History show otherwise. Misuse of guns is similar to addiction. The NRA pushes the idea that guns solve problems. I suspect that many "mass shooters," see themselves as "good guys with guns, correcting a perceived wrong." Read their manifestos. They don't mention guns. But the ease of getting them along with gun cult perceptions play into their crimes.
About 40-years ago I approached the PR folks at the largest Beer maker in America. I asked them if they had handouts on "responsible drinking," I could use at a "Wellness Fair," I was organizing. They suggested I was crazy. They perceived their job being the selling of a product. Who used it and how it was used was not their problem. Today, they fall all over themselves telling people to avoid "buzzed driving," and spread messages about the responsible use of their product. Instead of blanket defense of guns, the NRA should also be saying "Guns are not a tool to use in settling your grievances with the Universe."
