Doing a Bible study at church. That whole 'patriarchy' thing is not what we think it is. Frankly it was a bit of a thankless job-
1) The male head of the family was not only responsible for the safety and welfare of his wife and children but also the extended family.
2) Today when a person inherits a million dollars they can do with the money whatever they want. In ancient days that money went back into the household and the male head didn't get to enjoy any of it.
3) When trouble came a knockin' guess who was the first to get into armor and weapon up.

Yeah, I guess trying to live the life of a righteous God-fearing man is not easy- never has been, I guess that's the point. On the other hand, one of the main tenants of Leftism has always been trying to convince man that life should be "easy"- that goes back through all the temptations of Satan through the ages.
