Fetterman wasn't the better man it seems. Can we even work?

This was the plan all along, folks.

Not going to rip on Fetterman about this cause 'been there done that' with depression. However this nonsense with letting elected officials continue their duties while suffering mental illnesses has got to stop for both the sake of the official and the voters.

Around 8.4% of adults suffer from clinical depression. Not only is it treatable, but one of the most important things about recovery is allowing the individual to work.

Forcing a person to resign due to this kind of mental illness, is a death sentence. One might say your cure is worse than the disease.

Now if Fetterman chooses to resign, that’s entirely different. Most people would rather choose to work than forced to resign. That said, I’m sure there is a lovely severance package even for a modest congressman who leaves due to mental illness.

I agree with that on the matter of the private sector. However we are dealing with people whose decisions affect whole states and even the whole country.

And I would agree that if it is impacting his decision making skills then he should consider resigning. And while one could simply argue, “well if he can’t do the job or even the job itself is the source of his depression; then he should resign!” I’d argue that if a representative can be treated for any other injury or illness, and maintain their job depending on how well their treatment is going and the severity of impact of their overall health; then the same scrutiny should be recognized for even those suffering from depression.

I mean Hell. Our current and previous President have shown severe symptoms of dementia. And while both their medical professionals have tried to reassured us “they’re fiiine”, I honestly don’t buy it. But if they can keep their jobs despite having the same decision making skills of a mashed potato, Fetterman should also get a pass even if his potato is saggy.
