If, for example 1 upvote = 1 cent, then there would be more upvote begging

this is true because the upvote beggars would have a thirst for money, and there would just be stupid posts as well to get a quick buck. So, if Imgflip ever tried to do this, it would be very unwise.

Wait. listen.
I have thought about this. You could theoretically make money from making memes on Imgflip. While it would be hard for a regular person, someone like Iceu could do it. I might have been able to do it last spring but I left for a while so memes are getting less views. Anyways the top 200 get enough views regularly that it could work. You would need to get sponsors just like youtubers or other social media stars. You would probaly need to put their logo on your memes, mabye like in the corner or something and then also give them a special shoutout once a week or something like that (exact conditions would depend on contract). There is nothing in the Imgflip policies that say that you can't promote other products. (I have read them) So while it is true that Imgflip will probaly never pay you, it is possible for you to make money on this site. Taking Iceu for example:
-If we count his fun stream memes only (his most viewed)
-If we assume an average CPM (Cost Per Thousand) 7.00$ per 1000 views
-If we assume 2 fun stream images per day
-If we assume an average of 20,000 views per image (*Me looking at the fun stream now)
Then...
We can assume a weekly payout of...
2000$ per week
or 104,000$ per year
104,000

I would say that any salary 50,000$ or above can be considered enough for ONE person to live off comfortably , and effectively. So If your views equal with 50,000$ or more yearly you can in fact make a living off making memes

Out of simple curiosity, sometimes I do a reverse image lookup on google with some of my memes, and I found one posted by someone else as theirs on another site where they can make a little money for meme views. Not nearly enough to bother me though. And the site was Korean iirc.

Another one I made apparently got really popular with chiropractic clinics, too 🤣

Even the most upvoted memes here only get around 1,000 upvotes tops with most users being lucky to get 20 upvotes on average. I've uploaded the same memes I make here to other sites like Facebook and Instagram and gotten thousands of likes in comparison to a measly 5 or 6. It's about activity and community engagement and if users don't upvote memes they like then they can be considered lurkers.
It's all about the users and advertising. If there where more people actively using Imgflip then the site would make more via ads and users could makes bank from sponsorships.

It won't happen anytime soon since nobody actually uses Imgflip outside of making memes then leaving to post elsewhere. That doesn't mean there can't be money made by users in future.

Its not about upvotes or likes.
In terms of money making those dont matter.
What you need is views.
On imgflip the most VIEWED memes are like 500,000 views.
The average fun stream meme (hot page) gets like 50,000 views.
That is plently to start making money off of.

Upvotes do matter. They incentivise users to post. More users posting equals a bigger community and a bigger community equals more ad revenue for Imgflip. I can post a meme in a stream of thousands and get 5 upvotes on average whereas I can post the same meme to Instagram and get 800 likes by comparison and reactions and interaction is what drives people to post in the first place. I'm just not incentivised to give a shit about Imgflip's community as there's only a few actually good users on here that I like most other people don't interact here very much.

For example, if I post memes to a certain stream and it either gets just a few upvotes or no community reaction then I'm not interested in posting there so I just leave and do something more stimulating. If people ignore me then I leave the site and in turn Imgflip takes a financial hit. I should be getting paid to be here if anything given the very low incentives I have to use this site but I'm at least trying to build community on here which benefits users and platform alike.

Anyway rant over, sorry for writing so damn much but I had to be clear and 2 sentences wouldn't have cut it.

1. (Sentence 4): I can post in a stream of thousands and get hundreds and so can bigger users, Thats the fault of you, not Imgflip so you cant use that in a debate.

2. (Sentence 4:) You say that a community needs interaction. This is of course true, and while you may get more views or likes on instagram you wont get the same interaction. Imgflip is amazing as working as a community (partially because it is a smaller site.) The fact that me and you are detbating this right now shows that the comment section is live and well and that w found something that we are both interested in, and can talk about. There are at least mabye 10000 people that interact (interact meaning hold a conversation in this case) a lot daliy. So the views are worth more as well, because while we are small, we are more supportive. Other money making opportunities arise from that as well. Like lets say Iceu dropped merch tommorow. I am highly supportive of him and would buy it, while on bigger sites you really have to push people to interact with eachother, you, and your services/goods.

(Sentence 7:)
You shouldnt get paid for posting in a stream although mabye Imgflip should send a notification to every follower in a stream when you have been posting in that stream for 30 days or something. That way you have reason to stay and post, because when you reach 30 days it would advertise your account for you.
Imgflip should also have a leaderboard for each stream just like the past 7 day leaderboard on the main page.

(Sentence 8:)
Imgflip should not pay you for being here. What I am talking about is a third party product advertisement deal or selling of personal ideas or goods.

(Sentence 9:)
Never be sorry for writing too much.
This comment is literally an essay.
Even cites the sources (haha)

1. Wrong, it's not about good content it's a about cliques. Some users get simped for and the rest of us get relatively ignored. In turn we don't use the site as much and Imgflip takes a financial hit.

2. It's literally just you and me though, most comment sections are at most 4 people arguing.

3. If anything I should get paid to be here. Without me and like 5 other users Imgflip would be starved of content.

4. See '3.'

5. Thanks, you seemed like a good chat and you were, you;re a rare breed that this site really needs.

3?
Humble yourself a bit.

5. thx

1. Thats only somewhat true. Yes that happens, but the smaller users have users that are slightly bigger than they are they circle around. And then those medium users circle around the bigger users. Look at the site from a different perspective. Also people tend to build personal relationships on this site.

2. Some people cant invest there lives into a site, an thats fine. I get in trouble at school sometimes for not know when and when not to use imgflip. Some peope might just not be able to hold a converation for so long. They will comment and then leave and mabye reply later. They are interacting, just a little slower than us. Take some more time to look.
Thx for talking.
My device is about to die.

No. Think about it: the highest viewed meme has only 5 million views. You tubers who make big bucks get tens or hundreds of millions of views. It’s not even close. Iceu only gets a few hundred thousand views, tops. I’m not trying to make him look bad, I’m just pointing out that he won’t make any money really.

Exactly, that’s how small the website is, even if we did get paid to this.

True he wont make any money in comparison.
Youtubers will make hundereds of thousands or millions of dollars.
While that is not a possiblity here on Imgflip, you could make thousands or tens of thousands.
Thousands is enough to work as a second job.
Tens of thousands is enough for one person to live off of. (on average)
Also I would like to point this out:
If people started to make money on Imgflip, that fact by itself would bring more people on the site hoping to make a few bucks. This would make the bigger users even more money. This would have a snowball effect that would allow for bigger amounts of money to be made on Imgflip down the road.

Yea no need for this site to start monetizing creators, especially since reposts are a common issue in the fun stream 👀
2 ups, 2y
I’m not asking for the site to monetize creators, I’m just pointing out an obvious fact that even if they wanted to, they wouldn’t be able to because this is such a small site.
