Security people like them tend to carry high capacity semi auto pistols, and sometimes submachine guns under an overcoat (like they did for Mayor Bill Deblasio). The rifles generally get left in the vehicles. And if you enlarge the image, you will see the outline of their guns visible in their clothes: it's called "Printing".
