According to the New York City Independent Budget Office, the city spent $9.2-billion in 2020 on costs relating to criminal justice. If the city never prosecuted anyone where do the 267,000 per year who are put in jail in New York City come from? Somebody's spending all that money and arresting and prosecuting all those people. The crime rate in NYC is down in 2022 by 1.2% over 2021. Murder stats are kept by state. In 2022, some 128-people in New York have been convicted of murder. If NYC had zero convictions, it would have been a big story in the multiple sites I visited getting this info.
