Perhaps he needed the money for the real biggest scandal in the world right now: the cost of healthcare in the US.

POLITICO!?? Lololol and BTW you may want to reread what you posted. Even they state they donated to Democrats.

Again... if you have a source disproving the article feel free to post it. I'd be interested in reading it.

They donated to Democrats AND Republicans... (although Republicans got less than the Democrats) ......... exactly as I said. Maybe you should re-read what I wrote and what I posted?

How is it possible to have "given money back to charities" when they didn't get it from the charities in the first place?

All they did is drop the hot potato and throw their hands in the air as if to say "no foul" .

They're giving the money back.. to the community... via charities. It ain't perfect but it seems better than keeping the money.....which is apparently what most of them did.

Assuming the Politico article is accurate- Democrats and Republicans got a total of ~64 million dollars from FTX executives. These 2 congressmen gave back a total of $7,900...(which they claim is what they received.. maybe they're lying idk.) In any case, it sure seems like a drop in the bucket.

You're right. It is 100% a drop in the bucket.
The thing is, now that they know where it came from, it should have been sent back to FTX to start filling the bucket to make the investors whole. It's nowhere near enough to make any kind of real difference, but IMHO, it would have been the right thing to do.

It isn't charity to give someone else's money to charity, and I shouldn't expect politicians to know that. My bad.
Politicians have a habit of being generous with other people's money.

Eh..... You must be more of an optimist than I am to think that a dime of any money given back to FTX would make it back to any investors who got f*cked. Maybe I'm wrong but I tend to think any $$ that didn't get directly pocketed by whoever's left in the building would surely end up in the pockets of lawyers.

And I'm not trying to pretend they were saints or were being soOoOo generous or anything giving $$ that was given to them to charities.... I'm just saying what they did was better than what most apparently did...(keep the money).

Ideally, maybe they could find out which specific investors got f*cked and give them it back directly...... But then it's like... There's no way all of them get their money back, so who among them gets the money?? Do you divy it out proportionally to what they put in...? Should the poorest among them be paid back first....? Would they argue about who deserves it more no matter what? Sometimes you try to do the right thing and people think you're an *sshole anyway.

Haha.. No, I'm not an optimist. An idealist, maybe, but a defeated one.

I agree it's next to impossible to sort it accurately so maybe you're right that charity is the best option. And yeah, lawyers are always gonna get theirs.

We're never going to know where the money went, but it didn't just vanish. Someone or a few someones are rolling in it.
