Carson was the master of political balance. You laughed even when he poked fun at your guy. Part of it was his delivery, not mean or snarky. The other part was that he would quickly pivot and poke fun at the other side.
People like Chappelle and the writers of "In Living Color" and "South Park" got it right too (even though they were a bit blue for some), they rip into both sides equally.
