The last dip shit mayor of NYC had a thing for creating bike lanes on busy city streets, mostly at the expense of automobile parking spots.
I'm not a fan of them mainly because:
1. Weather - 4 months out of the year is not good bike riding weather.
2. Those lost parking spots cause a burden on small businesses.
3. People need to drive around more looking for parking spots or park illegally, impacting traffic, causing unneeded pollution.
4. hazard for pedestrians. (Seriously, I'm living a pedestrian/mass transit/uber existence.
5. It's dangerous for the bicyclists. I dont care how safe they try to make it, you'd have to be an idiot to ride a bike in NY city. (Unless you have absolutely have no other choice)
6. There are already recreational areas to take a bike ride (so it isn't that)
7. Traffic on most of the bike lanes is pretty light even in the best of weather. Believe me, it doesn't look like Beijing here on the street's of Queens NY. (Well, maybe Jamaica Queens does)
etc, etc
