Am I trippin? Or am I missing a joke? It's not that complicated at all, really....

To be clear, gender is whatever society deems it to be. The irony of the claim "ThE lEfT wAntS 99 gEndErs." Well, the beautiful thing about socially defined constructs, you can have as many definitions for as many variations as you want. Like feminine-formed men, or masculine-formed women. We could call them "feMale" and "woMan" if we wanted. Or, we could have genders for those who are infertile. Those who are super fertile. That's the whole point of culturally defined constructs.

Another user told me yesterday that gender and genitals are synonymous. A lot of people seem to think they're the exact same thing, and they definitely are not.

True, it's not... but there is a culture of ignorance in the US which operates on principles of "if I don't already know a thing, it must not be important" and "can't be bothered to pick up a book". When that's coupled with a general inability to think critically, the Red Hats and Qooks naturally evolve therefrom.

Yeah, that exists on both sides in different flavors. What I've been accused of is not looking at their sources by genetic fallacy, which I have worked to correct. I've also, since being here, have learned to say "I haven't heard" or "I don't know" because anyone who pretends to know everything is a fool. You don't need to say it, either. So, I pick the battles that I understand. I understand my limits in them. Honesty is the sharpest sword in the rhetorical arena.
