Are you going to volunteer to get audited then?
Since you're not doing anything wrong and all...
1 up, 2y
Sure! I overwithold specifically to avoid fees fines interest and penalties. If anything they'll owe me, and I'd rather give them an interest free loan than pay $500 for owing $50. So...what's everyone else worried about again?

If paying taxes is such a burden, why not stfu and move somewhere that doesn't have them? I'm sure there are plenty of 1st world counties with 1st world amenities that have no income taxes. Find one of those and go there if paying for infrastructure and services is such a terrible hardship.

Unless taxes are done professionally, expect an audit in the future. How do i know? Been there done that.

Most professionals don't know the whole tax code, but unless someone owns businesses or has complicated investments, an educated 10 year old could calculate the annual federal income tax on a napkin.

If someones taxes are more complicated, pay a professional to handle them, then write your congressman imploring a more simplified tax code. Until then, free electronic filings can expect not to be audited.

For those with dead simple filing requirements but who lack a 5th grade education, free tax prep is a thing. If that's too much effort, have the employer to put "single 1" on the taxpayer's w-2 and look forward to the refund.

How did the audit go by the way? Seriously, it's inexcusable for the IRS to mess with people out of spite or to harass them over nothing. If that was systemically the case I wouldn't support more of them either.

And? Last I checked, tax evasion is a choice, not an immutable personal trait.

It certainly works for cops, DAs and judges! I guess they need to be canceled too. Better to have no enforcement at all than enforcement that breaks more rules than it follows, especially when laws are stupid in the first place.

Huh, never experienced that personally, or heard an example from anyone I know. I guess if it affects too many upright citizens it'll go the way of stop and frisk.

I know CA is so fastidious about accurately calculating personal income tax that they once issued me a refund check for $.50. Not sure how trustworthy the fed is by comparison, but my taxes are simple enough I can calculate what I owe in about 5 minutes and as long as I pay it when I'm supposed to they don't seem interested in fxcking with me. Even got a few extensions when I was younger. Don't have any data points regarding the prevelance of mistakes on their end, nor the outcomes of disputing those mistakes. I've heard that electronic filings are generally not subject to audit, probably because the IRS is more concerned with people who DON'T file their taxes, but that could be a myth.

TL;DR, murder the tax prep industry, streamline federal income tax and put tax dodgers in prison. I'd be happy to see my tax dollars funding that.

Obama’s IRS harassed charitable and non-profit groups. That’s an IRS harassing organizations that by their financial nature not not even owe taxes!

As long as they're operating according to the law, sure. Only one way to verify that, and the meme addresses that issue.

When I'm scrutinize by the establishment, I'm eager to demonstrate that I'm legit. Why would I be cagey when I'm not trying to get away with something? That would just make me look guilty!

When they come for you just tel them you have nothing to hide & I’m sure they’ll admit their mistake, apologize, & leave you alone.

No, they'll realize I'm not the droid they're looking for and move along. I know this will be difficult for you to grasp, but the purpose of the IRS is to facilitate income tax collection, not to purposelessly harass people.

The joke of it is that they know what they're owed because they already have all the relevant data. They could assassinate the tax prep industry, save everyone the hassle of preparing and filing themselves, automatically garnish taxable wages as they're earned, then true up each year after everything is netted out to the penny. Instead they rely on an honor system abused by people who lack the integrity and accountability to pay their fuxking dues.

Too many people have demonstrated themselves to be too lazy, stupid or negligent to be relied upon to handle it personally. Ironically they evidence enough energy to whine about the fact they should be paying anything at all. Bunch of entitled crybabies. If having an income is such a burden, fxcking quit and be homeless. What's that line conservatives are so eager to spew whenever people want shxt for free? "There's no such thing as a free lunch." Forget the lunch. Let them eat their words.

YOU know what the IRS is to do. But Dems do not agree and appt liberals who abuse the IRS power for other ends. The IRS has already proven that they abuse their power under Obama-Biden. It will be worse under Biden-Harris.

I'm quick to admit that my 1st hand experience with the IRS is limited, and hardly a representation of the institution as a whole. What you describe is absolutely unacceptable, and to the extent that it accurately reflects the opperations of the IRS as a whole, we share a common problem, and a common enemy.

I'm all for being taxed. I'm not for ANYONE being subject to wanton cruelty at the hands of the government intended to protect and serve them.
