They are literally pumping gas into the air at a rate higher than usual. This higher amount of gas disrupts the atmosphere. Why is it so f*cking hard for you guys to understand?! It's like pouring orange juice into a bottle of cream soda. That introduced variable disrupts the soda in the bottle.
