Fascists start out as “religious nationalists” and soon after taking over they lose the religious part. They don’t want the populous worshiping two gods. Then they (the leader) becomes a dictator to be worshipped.
It’s funny how the rightists don’t see the traps their own kind have laid time after time throughout history.

I was about to disagree with you regarding the thing about them worshiping the dictator as a religious leader but then I remembered how many Trumpers literally compared him to Jesus on many occasions
They feign "religiousness" to acquire buy in from the masses, then they slide in as the messiah. Which the dummies also buy into. Part cult, part politics, part religion, part stupidity.....voila- Fascism/Dictatorship.
We are often scratching our heads asking ourselves, “what would the Founders think of [XYZ issue]?” Oftentimes it’s about topics the Founders would have known absolutely nothing about.
Well, in this case we actually do know. The brutal European wars of religion and the persecution of religious pilgrims who fled to America were absolutely front-and-center of their minds.
The Founders firmly rejected the establishment of a state religion, and it’s right there in the First Amendment. They knew theocracy and a republican form of government were fundamentally incompatible.
