I think it's the mental state of this generation of kids. Shootings didn't happen anywhere near as often back then (and neither did kidnapping children), so clearly there's a problem with how people are being raised and what they're being taught if this is just becoming a thing now. What I'm still trying to figure out is what was different between then and now. Was it respect, was it the culture, was it that better character was more common back then (which definitely is true)? It also could be that parents don't have much to do with their kids' lives anymore. The kid that did the Boston shooting legit bragged about how his parents know nothing about him and how he intentionally manipulates them to think he's someone he's not.
