As for the part about being trans-- gender doesn't make sense to children because it doesn't need to. Before puberty, gender seems to them to be nothing more than the clothes you wear and the toys you play with. Kids can have all kinds of feelings at age 12, but in a few years everything will become pretty obvious on its own. Until then, they need to be protected from any ideas that could prove harmful, because, as we have seen, children are very sensitive to ideas that can change their lives for the worse very quickly.
