Well. It is something they been talking for a looooong time. For many, many decades, but never went anywhere, can't build an infrastructure for it. We do not lack the technology to build the cars or drone like vehicles.

You can also google images for flying car prototypes. There are so many.
But, without an infrastructure, it is not gonna go anywhere, and right now no one cares about building one. It is nowhere it the top priorities. That is the problem. We have fliying cars for over 80 years now, but nowhere to ride them..."legally".

The problem with flying cars is that the same stupid drivers that are on the road now will be flying in 3 dimensions.

Yeah. We ain't getting flying cars for a while. I may be able to live long enough to see colonization of Mars, but not flying cars.
