Cinco de Mayo commemorates a major battle in the liberating of Mexico. Sort of like D-Day, in the liberating of Europe from Hitler.

The Cinco de Mayo I was taught about in school was a celebration of the rag-tag army in the Pueba de Los Angeles, defeating the professional army of the French invaders. Some French revisionists say their troops were in retreat before the battle. They still took the time to fight the small army that beat them.

I didn't say it was Mexican Independence Day. That is in September.

That happened in 1980 over a hundred years after the battle of Puebla.

'Celebrate Mexican Independence' is what the beer company say
But I guess Bastille day doesn't work for selling Mexican beer

They have correctly determined that people looking for an excuse to party don't want or need a history lesson.

Larry thinks supporting Mexicans is having open borders. More braindead not good enough without white saviors racism disguised as compassion.

Even Cesar Chavez was against illegal immigration and he was a migrant worker.

I grew up in the San Fernando Valley in the 1950s. I learned the difference between Americans of Mexican heritage (the majority group in Northern LA County at that time), Braceros (temporary workers authorized to supplement the shortage of workers) and people who were here without legal status. I never said here or anywhere else that I support people in that third group, because I don't. I just don't treat Americans like foreigners because they look like people who live across the border. I don't call Italians "WOPs," either, because a number of them arrived in America illegally, (WithOut Papers).

if calling me names and making unsupported false statements about me helps you rationalize whatever your feelings are, I'm OK with that. Not everyone is able to face their own shortcomings.

Why should people who aren't Mexican celebrate a Mexican holiday?

I was in Paris on the 4h of July one year. There were a number of celebrations there. People who are comfortable with who they are recognize things that are special about or important to others. It is called empathy.

Bruh, I'm not saying don't celebrate others cultures. I'm just stating the obvious, most far right Americans aren't going to be celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
