This is true. I honestly believe Jackson’s answer was not adequate. She attempted to show her impartialness but I think the Republicans scored quite a political victory, and nothing more, by catching her off guard to a question she did not expect.
However, we should not consider her answer as merely stupid. We should beware of judges who think they know all the answers or dismiss ideas that are currently being debated. Jackson is at least aware that the term is currently in debate.
That there groups of people who a desire for it to be changed. And while it may be liberal to desire this, and conservative to dismiss this; it is intelligent to consider these two views and whether they have any merit in terms of legislation which can be utterly disastrous when paired with any expectation that can lead to discriminatory policies.
And that can be a conservative view too.
