Liberalism is a mental disorder.

Thanks for your input.

To be clear: the concept in my meme was originally one of my numerous self-described "half-baked conspiracy theories" many months ago.

I hadn't thought much about it since then...... until I saw the image in Richie's meme. Which (if true) seems to indicate that a gas station is putting their own Joe Biden stickers on their own pumps...otherwise I'm pretty sure it would not be "vanadalism" to remove them. Lol

Could the image itself be fake? Sure.

Might someone who was not the gas station owner have slapped the Biden stickers up as well as that printout? Sure.

Do I know if the gas station is actually sticking it to their customers? No.

Is asking and answering your own questions mental? Yes.

Lol
I'll be here all week.

You mean when the pump prices are the same as those of all the other stations in the area? Just wondering how far Biden supporters will go to blame the GOP or Trump for Biden's dementia -driven incompetence. Still wondering.

The distributer sets the fuel prices.
Makes sense when you think about it.
[deleted]

So,.. what happens when the distributor stops production?
Well, apparently blaming the President of this country seems logical to these 'true' Americans. lol
Did you not bother to actually read what Opec had done in 2016(shut down production to refit all wells and pipelines) and then the ill-timed shut down in Feb?

Distributer sets the price at the station, not the station owner.

Truck arrives with two big silver tanks of fuel, truck dumps silver tanks of fuel into underground tanks. Truck driver leaves invoice for paid price and sell price.
I hope that you can understand that because I cannot make it any simpler.

You LITERALLY proved, you don't understand anything related to fuel markets and pricing!
...and you did it in one comment..
Cheers for being simple.
FACT- only 21% of the Stations in USA are regulated by oil companies.
The Majority of stations are owned by private individuals who can CHANGE the pump price at any given time.
Remember summer price wars when the price actually went DOWN? If you don't... you're not from here,... commrade
That's because private station owners can CONTROL their own product prices.
DUH....

PREDICTED: you try to attack my 'identity' and then ignore the 'reality' of sales practices in a capitalist Democratic Republic.

Bruh... you have no clue how the prices rise so you fling your shit at the President because it tickles your lizard brain into thinking it's winning something.
You should be blaming Trump for holding back fuel costs and inflation for the next guy to deal with but that's all Trump could do couldn't he? Great business man(sarcasm)
0 ups, 3y
Right, next the liberal hypocrite accuses me of being a Trump supporter.

Idk if I can make it any simpler either....

Do you have any sources backing up your claim that a gas station owner essentially has zero say in their own profit margin?

I mean I'm open to being proven wrong but I'm not going to just believe you without any outside sources backing your claims.
1 up, 3y
Other than working in the petroleum distribution system, no.
I guess all the journalists that have deadlines for feature articles know more.
[deleted]
0 ups, 3y
Nope,,, Petroleum prices are determined by market forces of supply and demand, not individual companies, and the price of crude oil is the primary determinant of the price we pay at the pump. Although the major oil companies set the retail price, each station can change their price anytime they like... that's what causes local price gouging, and why Republican owned stations in Kentucky AND Tennessee have higher prices than EVERY other fuel station in the state.
Rampant Capitalism creates uncontrollable greed and supply in demand is how 'most' Americans enjoy monopolizing their fellow Americans so stop whining, it's just Karma!

Which area has pump prices that are all the same? I don't think I've ever seen that. Gas stations right across the street from each other will often have different prices. If an entire area had the exact same prices idk about you but I would suspect "collusion". I recently saw an article where gas stations (BP & Shell ) were actually suing a competitor for having prices too low though so it would appear there is some at least some concerted effort to keep prices similar....

Anyways.... that's cool. I'm wondering where in this meme you saw anything about Trump?

B-b-but TRUMPPpPpP!
Lol

Wow! Fascinating. Tell us more about what a HUGE difference there is between -- say - 4 dollars per gallon for regular at one station and 3 dollars and eighty cents per gallon for regular at the station across the street and how that proves some sort of telling point. What's telling is that under Biden the fuel prices have mostly quintupled . . . everywhere inside this nation . . . and not because of the Russians but because Dementia Joe Biden ended oil independence for the United States during his first week as president.
[deleted]

Gas prices have NOT quintupled, anywhere in the US. They've not even doubled. They've gone up and it stings if you're dependent on fuel, but absolutely nowhere in the us has gas prices hit $15-20 per gallon.

Originally it made me wonder as far as a small price difference mattering. But in context of our conversation it also makes me wonder.... theoretically IF the gas station does not have any say in the final price, how tf is any other station going to waste any money trying to sue them over the price when they should know that they do not control price?

Apparently BP and Shell are clueless enough to do it... I mean normally I might question frivolous lawsuits like maybe it's some kind of PR but in this case it seems the lawsuit would only make customers turn away from BP and Shell.. I would think they would know better?

Also if that article is inaccurate, then so are at least a dozen or so other articles about the same thing... Idk. Hit pieces on BP & Shell? I guess I'll wait for them all to be retracted or not.

February 8, 2021 — Biden rings death knell for America’s energy independence

As we produce less oil and gas domestically, two bad things will happen. First, gas prices are going to rise rapidly — perhaps to above $4 a gallon. Prices have already started to rise at the pump to more than $2.50 a gallon in many markets. Second, we will make up for the lost domestic energy production by importing more energy from Saudi Arabia, Russia and OPEC nations.

https://www.bostonherald.com/2021/02/08/biden-rings-death-knell-for-americas-energy-independence/

Wouldn’t it be smarter, safer and, yes, more virtuous to get the energy we need from Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota or even Alberta, Canada, than from countries that hate us?

I know, I know. No one likes to hear facts and the truth, but on the oil market, crude oil did reach above $120 / barrel setting a historical record, but recently as demand has eased a little and long term crude futures become more stable, the current crude oil price is now $103, which is still very high historically. For most of the recent decades, crude oil prices have been around $70-$80 / barrel.

No one likes to hear facts and the truth? False.
I do and I bet you do as well. Well... Maybe depending which facts/truth.

And ya I am aware of that. I'm thinkin maybe I should've sold my oil stonks a month ago. But eh .. Russia's still in Ukraine and summer's not over yet.

Anyway.. In context, I'm not sure exactly where you're going with that...? Maybe you misunderstood my meme. I'm not saying input costs/ high oil prices are fake news or irrelevant, I'm saying theoretically gas stations could widen their profit margin a little bit extra beyond the input cost of oil, based on current public perception of oil prices..... and then blame Biden. Maybe make up for a little lost $$ during covid. Idk. Any idea if there is a law that says they couldn't do something like that?

Someone else here was trying to tell me that gas stations don't actually get to decide their own profit margins but I wasn't able to get any source out of them backing up that claim.
0 ups, 2y
thanks for a civil reply. I realize I should've replied to another reply rather than the OP for full comedic meme effect. If you look at oil companies' profit amount is higher than the past 2 years, but their net profit margin % is still about the same. Oil companies operating costs have increased proportionally to inflation and proportionately to their total revenue increase. The past 2 years have been terrible for oil companies from a financial investment point of view, so having a good profitable year makes it look like a huge 100+% net amount growth year over year, but that's a very misleading story the media pushes. The fact is that oil companies are only making about 2-3% more this year than 4 years ago, but 100% more compared to 2020 and 2021.

I don't have any official sources, but my friend's dad owns a gas station and he calls the surrounding gas stations every morning to discuss what to set their prices to. In some states, like GA, there are state laws that restrict how much gas stations can increase their prices.
