Your comments reveal how little you know about the history of Russia from the Soviet Union Days, forward. Russia today relies on energy production for about 40% of all income. Their state-owned businesses are as inefficient as they ever were. In the old days, the Soviet Union would syphon off profits from countries where money was being made, like Poland and East Germany. Their membership in NATO pts them off limits. Ukraine was ripe for plucking.
The disruption of Russian oil money should not be a long-term goal. Putin knows that he cannot maintain control without the support of the people. That is why all free news media have been shut down and only State propaganda that does not mention "war," is being reported. The Russian people would not condone what he is doing. If their economy goes into the "crapper," he will lose them.
We did not have a totally energy independent country, as you falsely assert. It had improved greatly under Obama. But, we still imported oil, etc. In fact, the Venezuelan oil that Trump barred in 2019 and replaced with Russian oil amounts to 7% of our needs. We have the capacity to produce all the oil and gas we need and still be the largest exporter in the world. But, as many conservative media outlets have reported since before 2017, the Russians have spent millions funding various anti-fossil organizations.
The Russians helped fuel movements on the extreme left and extreme right, in order to make America weaker. Their GDP is about $3.8-trillion. By comparison, California alone has a $3.0-trillion "GDP." They cannot compete with us on a level field. Your guy is Putin's chief collaborator in the same sense that Neville Chamberlain looked the other way for Hitler's invasion of Poland. An invasion of this size as an enterprise of a small economy such as Russia's takes years of planning and setting aside resources. Instead of noting this development (which I am sure was included in Raw Intelligence Briefings) and warning Putin against aggression, Trump courted his favor.
You may buy the pre-packaged propaganda of the radical right, but it makes me puke.
