I swear I’m going to open up politics stream one day and they’ll be howling about the latest liberty-infringing ordinance to prevent gas hoses from being shoved up people’s bungholes.

I once asked a very loquacious Imgflip conservative to explain in very simple terms what supports a government’s authority to require its citizens to wear seatbelts: he couldn’t do it, because modern right-wingery views any reasonable safety measure as an unconstitutional infringement on liberty and one step removed from the gas chambers.

Let’s take a step back and agree that seatbelt laws are valid, mmkay? Now think about it: what is it exactly that makes such laws a valid use of government authority?
