They (CSA officers) weren't the best people. But they were still important historical figures. And a lot of the common Confederate soldiers didn't own slaves at all, and simply fought for their state.

I know they didn't. My point is that although they might not have been fighting for something good, most Confederates weren't evil. Now don't get me wrong, there was the occasional bad person, but the Union had those too.
