If I ever find a botomless pit, I will occasionally throw jugs of water in it for my fallen homies...

They would never reach anyone, because they would reach terminal velocity and travel at a constant speed, just like everything/everyone else that has or will fall in.

Note that a falling person has a different terminal velocity than a cup of water, because it depends on the mass and shape of the falling object, but I think you're still right. And if the water somehow reached them, it would only be little drops of water like rain, if it doesn't evaporate before it. So in conclusion it wouldn't help to throw jugs of water in the pit.

And if there were no terminal velocity, the person would have fallen in first and would always have more time falling and accelerating than the jug, so will always be moving faster than the jug.

I don't know, I think because the human body isn't very aerodynamic, you wouldn't fall straight down, you'd drift toward the sides and end up scraping against them at an absurdly high speed and dying of road rash. I guess it depends on how wide the pit is and how rough the walls are.
