Never thought I'd say this but - SAG(Screen Actors Guild) rules are the same as NRA rules when it comes to gun safety on the set and yes, that does include 'prop guns'.

Actually a stupid legal strategy.
There are bound to be witnesses at a movie set. So SOMEONE definitely saw him physically cock the hammer and fire the gun.
If he claimed it was a total accident because he had no way of knowing the bullets weren't blanks, he could probably get off with a fine. Which he can afford...
Now they have reason to believe it wasn't an accident since he's lying about it...
