Spot on. The 'sky is falling' reaction to yet another variant seems bizarre.
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, who chairs the South African Medical Association, and who first reported the new variant, said one of its strange characteristics is that it's "so mild." So why take the whole world to panic stations? This is simply another step along COVID-19's path to being endemic, and was entirely predictable.
It's very likely that the omicron variant will mark the point where most people finally realize that artificially-induced economic catastrophes aren't the appropriate cure for every mutation of the virus.

You are so right. Medical & virus experts have explained how all viruses have certain traits in common. One important one is that as they continue to mutate into more contagious forms, their ability to do serious harm decreases drastically- until you eventually get to the point of the common cold (which there is still no cure for) 🙄
