Apparently they originally displayed downvotes, but people decided to be a bunch of snowflakes so the downvotes were removed

There was a thing called downvote counters, which was kinda cool, but a lot of people got offended by the amount of downvotes they had and left, the popularity of imgflip at the time was going nowhere, and once they removed the counter, the popularity of imgflip started rising.

Bad idea, they removed it in 2016, so back in 2011, they featured it and new users arguing stupid stuffs every time, they bring into a negative impact until in 2016.

I remember when there was that one feature that used to show upvotes and downvotes
