That's a fair point against some religions views on Christianity. What my church teaches and I believe to be true is that the 3 members of the Godhead are one in purpose, not in being. Our heavenly father is an exalted being who started as man is now, and through following celestial law, he became as he is now, raising his children in mortal lives that they may become like him. Jesus Christ is the firstborn of the father and came to Earth to save us from sin. Not being slowed down by sin, he achieved perfection and exaltation, as the Father has, faster than anyone else can, but by drawing closer to him we can also eventually gain this. The Holy Ghost is a spirit who has not received a body of flesh and blood as the Father and Son have. He can communicate with all of us at once since he takes no physical space as we experience it. He teaches us of eternal truths when we carefully listen. These are three distinct being, so Jesus Christ never prayed to himself, and The Father didn't come to this Earth as a human.

My religion does acknowledge the existence of spirits, and we believe that before we were on earth, we were born as spirit children of God, sent to Earth to learn to control physical bodies, and will eventually be reunited with a perfected form of our flesh and blood body after Christ's second coming.
