The problem with satire in this day is that it runs too close to the truth- hard to tell them apart.

The original constitution doesn’t prohibit slavery either. Prohibiting slavery is an amendment. But if you base the US constitution solely on its original manuscript - like you’re doing with the Bible - one could say our country doesn’t prohibit slavery.

You can’t change history, it is what it is and it’s helped us learn from past mistakes. I think the Bible is perfect the way it was written

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Back then there weren’t laws and their governments were empires with a single ruler. The past is the past

Because it happened, that’s why it isn’t prohibited. Why don’t history books prohibit slavery in the 1800’s? Why don’t they deny rape? Because it happened and you can’t rewrite history

I agree and yes it is a book of religion that people are supposed to follow. Things have changed in the last 2000 years believe it or not. And as you know slaves existed in America until the civil war was over, and they still exist in foreign countries. So 2000 years ago slaves were fine to be owned and is not against the law like today in America. And for beating kids? Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t it what? 60 years ago when teachers would beat kids for misbehaving? That got changed. But do you see what I’m saying? You can’t just say a 2000 year old book should be rewritten because it disagrees with todays terms

And how does this relate to current day events to add in?
1 up, 3y
The Bible is a book about the lord and savior Jesus Christ. As you said it’s not a history book. Have there been any more face to face experiences with god? No because he was crucified

The basic commandments are enough and with the law system of the US and the constitution I think we are fine without an update

You’re the equivalent of the PMRC back in the day, and I’ll quote a megadeth song of which it’s about the PMRC “little man with big eraser changing history, procedures he’s programmed to, all he hears and sees. Altering the facts and figures, events and every issue make a person disappear, and no one will ever miss you. Rewrites every story, every poem that ever was
Eliminates incompetence, and those who break the laws
Follow the instructions of the New Ways' Evil Book of Rules
Replacing rights with wrongs, the files and records in the schools”. The Bible shouldn’t be updated. What are they going to update? Censoring what went on back then? Because then the Bible will be a lot shorter with all of the Public’s revisions. The Bible shouldn’t be updated, because if you get rid of what happened(which was wrong)people won’t know and eventually it’ll happen again. So what will rewriting the Bible and censoring the child abuse and slavery change?

"And yet I have read more of the Bible than a lot of Christians have"

Irrelevant line of argument:
1. Many people claiming to be Christians are not.
2. Actual Christians are not perfect, therefore this is possible.
3. Being the tallest Pygmy doesn't mean you're ready for the NBA. You clearly do not know what any of it means.

"Messiah, not Jesus"
Jesus is the Messiah, your general whimpering to the contrary notwithstanding.

"Unless you want to tell them that you understand Jewish scripture better than they do."
Indeed, I do in fact understand it better than they do, thanks to the aid of the Holy Spirit. Over and over again God says things like the following concerning stiff- necked Jews:

Isaiah 6:9
And He said, “Go, and say to this people:

“‘Keep on hearing, but do not understand;
keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’
-

But then, having read the Bible so much, you already knew that, didn't you? One then wonders why you would make such an obtuse statement.

"Not as wicked as you seem to think, and waaaay less wicked than your god."
1. Obviously, merely making that statement makes you more wicked than God.
2. In God, there is no wickedness.
3. Like it or not, He is also your God. There is only one God, eternally existing as three Persons- Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And He is everyone's God- you do not have to acknowledge it for this to be true, but you most certainly will, one way or the other, in the future.

"Again, I understand Christianity better than a lot of Christians do."
I doubt if you understand it better than anyone. You are blind, leading other blind people- at best. What you think you know is simply not true. Using false converts, or immature Christians to bolster your vain assumptions is meaningless in reality.

"Only the New Testament is about Jesus, the Old Testament is about Israel and their relationship to Yahweh"

You are entirely ignorant about the contents of the Bible- entirely. Most of the prophecies concerning the Messiah are to be found in the Old Testament, as are actual appearances of the pre-incarnate Christ- known as a Christophany by theologians.

You are simply a wicked person, "Octavia", and it is pathetic that you work so hard to disprove something you know next to nothing about. Your opinions are useless to the rest of those that see them here- utterly useless.

" I don't read the Bible with the assumption that everything it says is completely true, because that's dumb. I read it and see if it lines up with the evidence that we have. It's not my fault that it often doesn't line up with the evidence."

1. I also did not originally read it assuming it all to be true. I have since learned that it is true, being inspired by God Himself. I was originally a rabid antagonist like yourself, and you are doing no better than I did in your offensive to prove your points. I have yet to hear an argument from you that I did not once use, and while I am certain you have not unleashed your full arsenal of ignorance, I had arguments I have yet to see you use.

You seem to think that the church has not been dealing with these triflings you call evidence for centuries- your ideas are anything but original. They are simplistic and boring in their consistency with centuries of wicked people trying to justify their rebellion and sin against God.

"It's not my fault that it often doesn't line up with the evidence."

Being blind, you cannot be expected to see how wrong you are, but you are foolishly wrong. If what you said here was true, then indeed it would not be your fault. What is your fault is your refusal to see that indeed the evidence does show the Bible to be the Word of God. I responded some time ago with a number of basic, straightforward facts. It is possible that you responded to these and I missed this- I often just glance at what you say, because what you have to say is at best absurd, and always pathetic. You rail against that which you do not believe exists, apparently for the sake of being contrary. Perhaps you also enjoy besting less informed Christians, though that happens a lot less than you appear to think it does. Putting forth wrong arguments to someone ill equipped to handle them does not make them any less wrong.

So you said a lot of nothing in answer to my accusation that you do not really know what is in the Bible. In the end, I would say that you agreed with this premise by default, while trying to find some solace that others don't know it as well as you think you do.

What you’re looking for is God’s modern day profit. Continuing revelation exists today.
