Also they are not taking into cosideration that those deaths also had previous health conditions, like obesity and heart disease, cancer, which still the biggest killer in America but no one likes to talk about. Guess it hurts their feelings when they get called out for what they are, fat @$$e$ (cancer patients excluded, by all means my heart pours out to them), but is ok to discriminate agaist anti-vaxxers.

Add the mild cases that were never tested/documented and the rate is even lower.

Don’t forget about how China didn’t even come close to reporting all their cases.

. . . add the faulty tests and sloppy reporting and all the numbers are drastically lower , but just enough for the Politicians to use it for Political gain . Coincidence ?

Basic math Lucario. When you calculate percentages you have to move the decimal place 2 spaces. By those numbers it would be a 2% death rate. However it is common knowledge that the starting number for total cases is massively smaller than reality, so it does end up coming out to 0.02%. You got the right answer but you didn’t do the right math LOL

Nice job on the math. Was somewhat comforting to see someone else here actually bothered with it.

Why are the starting number of total cases massively smaller than reality though?

The only cases you're seeing when you google covid cases worldwide are the tested and confirmed cases. Obviously every country has had some delay in the testing process because you can't test for a virus the instant it exists. Covid arrived in the US weeks, maybe even a month prior to when counting started. Also, outside of developed nations there isn't nearly enough testing done to count those numbers as accurate. Especially India, with an insane population density. So they do random testing in different parts of the country to try and find an infection percentage, then multiply that by the population and you get a ballpark estimate much closer to reality, which you can see in the attached image.

Oh I didn't know that

Fair enough. Basically I wasn't sure if you were considering the fact that the initial number of cases and the number of deaths would BOTH be smaller than reality for the same reason...lack of tests. (Which would make me think the rate of death wouldn't necessarily change when considering an initial lack of tests.)

Also.... that image you provided from the NYT seems a bit confusing/misleading. Under the "conservative scenario", the estimate of infections exceeds the total US population by 70 million........ So it looks like they are comparing official counts in the US to 3 scenarios on the entire planet.

The NYT image is on India not US.

Ooh.. ok that makes more sense. Guess I forgot you had switched to talking about India in the comment.

Also, yes deaths go up as well when doing this but the reason the death rate drops is because you see a larger increase of cases than an increase of deaths. It's much easier to tell if somebody is dead than if they're sick. And even in developed countries testing still remains a challenge since usually people don't get tested unless they show symptoms but most people are asymptomatic. So what we report in deaths is much closer to reality than what we report in cases, which is massively higher.

Oh ok, thanks for the fix!

I shoulda put that the numbers were searched up 1 day ago according to this type of time lol, but still, low chances

When you consider how bad they've manipulated the numbers, it's even more ridiculous.
