Been absolutely buried since February, but things are leveling off-- Hence the memeing lately haha.
"Mrs. Krinkle" & I finally got our house in the woods we've been trying to find for a few years now. We've only been moved a little over a month, but already getting plots ready for a fall garden. It's about to go next level hahaha.

Sounds like a dream come true to me. So what's going in the garden? We always do collards, because it's the southern thing to do :) and it's also a family tradition. My grandfather planted thousands of them every year, it was his only cash crop and the money he made off of them paid for his seed and fertilizer for the rest of the year. Had people that made a tradition out of going to his farm to buy from him every year, some would drive over 2 hours to get there...that was pretty cool. Cabbage and broccoli were other big ones, and turnips which I despise, lol.

It is a dream come true, really.
For now, we're focusing on cold hardy stuff for the fall-- kale, cabbage, kohlrabi, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots. Got some blueberry & elderberry transplanted from the old house & re-established just in time, the weather just broke here 2 days ago. Going to try to get some fruit trees in before it gets cold, we'll see. It's been a long process & a lot of work, but we love it.
That's cool about your grandpa, the work you put in definitely pays off, we always end up giving stuff to friends & neighbors. Now that we have more room, we hope to grow enough to sell a little too at the local farmer's market.

Sounds like an awesome homestead bro, I'm sure y'all will enjoy it there! I hope to move somewhere out of the burbs soon, we've been looking and working towards it but the housing market is stupid right now, so it'll probably be a while till things calm down. My parents have blueberry bushes planted all around their house, that's pretty awesome. Never tried to grow elderberries but I know they are supposed to be really good for a lot of things, wouldn't mind trying to cultivate some. Kohlrabi is something I have never tried before, what is that like? I've heard it's like crossing broccoli with apples, lol.

That's a pretty good description of kohlrabi haha. It's not really sweet, but the texture is kinda like an apple. The leaves taste a lot like broccoli and are pretty good when you get the tender ones. Mainly the root is consumed, it's a big bulb-- I usually chop it up and cook it like fried potatoes. It kinda tastes like a potato w/ a hint of brocolli.
The housing market is insane right now...really insane- I don't blame you for waiting.
I would've waited for things to calm down too, but everything was getting snatched off the market within hours of posting. We got really lucky with the place we found though, it just worked out.
You guys will make it happen when you're ready. When it's time, things will fall into place,
know what I mean?
