There's a reason why Brave New World, Atlas Shrugged, 1984, and yes, even The Hunger Game are quoted as a warning and Handmaiden Tale never is - mainly because those books are about overpowering and corrupt government that at one point or another has happen in real life(The Hunger Games is a high tech Roman Coliseum Bread and Circuses)

Handmaiden Tale has the concept of men in the US turning women into nothing more than glorified baby makers. . .never mind if any politician/political movement tried that kind of stunt in real life would find themselves on the wrong end of a whole bunch of guns held by husbands, fathers, uncles, brothers, friends, etc.

And, for what it's worth, there are plenty of historical examples worldwide of women being controlled in ways that prefigure The Handmaid's Tale (footbinding, harems, female castration . . .).

At zero point did I even suggest that. All I said was that men will never EVER sit for something like that in the US. Heck, I believe a woman has the right to put a bullet into the head of a rapist/abuser when the vile acts are about to committed on her.
