I grew up in Canada, so I had 20 years of the academy, the media, and the political class telling me that communism was the only choice moving forward into the future. When I read an old rush book I picked up at a used book store my goal was to read it and refute everything in it to make myself a better communist. The problem is that when I read it, I could not refute any of it, it all made sense. I didn't change my life, but that spark stayed with me and eventually burned down my old life.
