I will state for the record that as a white person myself, the word “Mayo” doesn’t bother me at all nor any of my white friends here on Imgflip to my knowledge.

There’s no history of abuse behind that term the way there is for actual racial slurs. I never even heard it until a few weeks ago, and only on Imgflip. It’s a total inside joke as far as I can tell. Treating it as the equivalent of the n-word and others is an absurdity.

I’m no lexicographer and I do love me some Urban Dictionary (the stodgy official old ones don’t always keep track of the latest developments on in our ever-evolving language): that said, the fact it didn’t warrant a mention in Webster suggests what I said about the term having no hateful history.

No hateful history, or at the most a very obscure, very recent one. I’m a 31-year-old white guy and I’ve never in my life heard of it till a few weeks ago. I have heard terms like cracker, whitey, honkey — those wouldn’t be tolerated here when weaponized. But Mayo just strikes me as funny. No, I’m not going around calling other white people that in anything but an ironic sense (“whaddup my Mayo?”), but I’m sure as heck using it in memes. Because memes are funny and that’s what we do here!

Tl;dr, the word wasn’t used in conjunction with enslaving millions of people for centuries, let’s put it that way.

Who's to say something as innocuous as a condiment now won't become abused, at one point in history the N word was just an inside joke too. Don't make excuses for crapping on the white race because "they don't have a history of oppression" you evidently haven't studied much history, if you believe that. Deciding to revere and protect only one race is itself racist.

And which "one race" do you think is being protected here? I'm a Native American. There are memes here about the treatment of Asians, Latinex, Arabs, Uyghurs, many others, & yes white people too. Who does that leave out?

On Imgflip I’ve been very active in promoting and celebrating white talent. Some people know that I’m a fan of Kylie Minogue — a white! Her sister Dannii? Also white!

Not only them but in general I consider myself someone who appreciates white beauty. I would wager that nobody on Imgflip has memed more White people in a positive light than yours truly!

I don’t really see color, but come to think of it many of the rock bands I grew up listening to were white bands. Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd. Yes. Metallica. Bon Jovi. Toto. So talented, and all 100% white.

Everyone I work with in my office is white. I could go on!

My first response: My version of the High Road. I don't call people names. I sometimes let them see what I see. After all the complaining in this stream about the Pride parades ("Ree! HoW cAn ThEy Be So OpEn AbOuT wHo ThEy LoVe?!") I look at those angry MAGA guys and see the damage done by a lifetime of suppressed and unfulfilled desires. All compassion, but that guy needs some yoga and probably some loving (if only his palpable aura of hate weren't driving people away).

I have alts for my own personal reasons like other users of Imgflip. I’ve self-reported all of them.

I’ve never used an alt to target or harass any user of Imgflip, unlike several alts on Imgflip targeted specifically at me. I (re-)reported those last night using the feedback form.

I’ve never been notified that alt accounting in general breaches terms. I’ve never been notified that using an alt to roleplay breaches terms. However, using an alt to harass, target, and stalk others seems to me to be a clear violation. And it happens with unfortunate frequency, especially to me.

That said, if y’all upstairs would like to clean house and get rid of every alt on Imgflip that was used to frame and slander other people, then I’d happily nuke my own alt which I use partly to mod my streams and partly just to have fun and do different things on a political stream where it’s open season on every known “Leftist.”

I still need at least two accounts to manage my streams due to the 10-stream limitation.

You don’t like to troll “people,” though. You’re not exactly equal-opportunity about it. You like to troll liberals, specifically. That’s why your presence here on a forum that announces itself as being for liberal memers is problematic. It’s written all over your profile and codified in your screenname, frankly. You’re a hyperpartisan hack.

And trolling is quite honestly a gentler term that kind of obscures and elides much of what you do. Trolling doesn’t break site terms, and good-natured trolling doesn’t necessarily break our stream terms, either.

What does break our terms is stalking, spam, over-the-top insulting commentary, targeted harassment of specific members of our community.

And I have the evidence to back all this up. Despite KTG nuking those templates, I still have them.

That said, it would be a mistake for you to conclude that it’s open season on us whenever we set foot in politics stream. Despite the right-wing bias of its userbase, politics stream announces itself as being open to people of all political viewpoints. Liberals are therefore entitled to the same protections as anyone else.

And if liberals are currently fleeing that stream as they seem to be these days, it’s because of trolls like you. How much longer before Imgflip recognizes that?

I have seen one abusive, anti-social liberal politics memer flagrantly harass others on his own memes. (He wouldn’t be welcome here at PoliticsTOO).

I chastised him a couple times and reported him to site mods. I was told in response, basically, that because he sticks to his own memes, they’re not that concerned. I avoided him after that, and he’s never commented on any meme of mine, nor have I seen him comment elsewhere. His comments sections tend to attract right-wing trolls who obviously love bashing him in return.

Other than that, I’ve not seen anyone on the political Left of this site resort to tactics similar to you. But because he doesn’t stalk people and gratuitously attack others unprompted, you’re worse.

So no, I’m not blind and I’m not blinded by partisanship. I’m calling for you to prove your own proposition.

—Occasional, low-level insults don’t violate terms. Any seasoned mod of a political stream knows discussion sometimes gets heated. It’s not generally worth it to shut down a conversation for minor violations.

—Targeted harassment, spam, and gratuitous, unprompted attacks that have nothing to do with the meme topic and don’t even try to start a conversation *do* violate terms. Such comments are valueless, degrade the atmosphere and ought to be nuked. That goes equally for politics stream and PoliticsTOO.

You’ve engaged in the latter type of violation more times than I can count. I saved those templates in order to serve proof of your violations whenever needed, to support our decision here to stream-ban you. Since I know there are many out there inclined to second-guess our modding decisions. I think nuking the evidence is the wrong call, unless you’ve changed. It doesn’t seem you have. But, like I said, I still have it. It’s just not saved to Imgflip’s server anymore — except in the original context where you made the memes and comments, which may or may not have been deleted.

Show me any liberal memer who’s guilty of the severe, persistent violations I’ve defined here and which you’ve engaged in and I’ll be the first to report them. But I’m not aware of any. Until you serve evidence of it, your whataboutism is unavailing.

Final note: PoliticsTOO is no more partisan than the conservatives stream or other streams like it. Matter of fact, the mods at “conservatives” stream recently adopted stream rules that are verbatim counterparts of our own.

I don’t know of anyone here who would dispute the right of Imgflip conservatives to establish a right-wing partisan stream if they so choose. It’s axiomatic that principles of free speech grant us that right just as much as we’re allowed to have cats streams for cat memes and dogs streams for dog memes (and for stream mods to deny submitted memes that don’t relate to those topics).

There are trolls who are silly, trolls who are funny, trolls who shovel disinformation by the truckload but aren’t otherwise abusive, and trolls who track, target, and hunt down other users of Imgflip because they fall into certain demographics (e.g. liberal, LGBTQ). Trolls who appear to be here for no reason other than to ruin the Imgflip experience for others.

Those are the ones I’m most concerned about, and the memer we’re talking about falls into that category.

Deleting those saved templates without any sign of reform on his part is a free gift to him.
