And people can finally stop going to the hospital repeatedly with something that could easily be helped with some medication or an inhaler.

Personally I'd rather we just truly de-regulate the market and allow for true competition amongst providers. You'd see astounding results immediately. The role of government should only be to ensure that actual quality-of-care standards are being met by providers.

not everything needs to be based on capitalism/business. Healthcare is one of those things. we are supposed to be the "best" country in the world. We should have the "BEST" healthcare outcomes and quality of life. We don't.

My mother in law has private insurance and she can't pick her doctor which ironically many Republicans accuse socialized Healthcare of having this problem

Right, but "private" insurance these days is nothing but a few huge players who've locked up their shares of the market and are content to let that remain the status-quo (as OP referenced).

There are no options in a market with no competition.

We did that. That was before ACA and many prone were uninsured because of the demand for Healthcare. The demand for Healthcare is perceievably limitless

An interesting article I read on the subject...without knowing much about current healthcare except our system is f****d, my ideal position is one in which we utilize the private market to provide care but the government ensures the playing field is levelled and a minimum standard of care accessible to all. Be this through mandates on companies or a public option for those with pre-existing conditions and/or other financial morbidities, that'd be my preferred solution.

This might just be my brain having a seizure, but the only A2A of which I'm aware is 'Ask to Answer'...I presume you were referencing an Act of some sort and would only say that our current reality is far from an open market. :(

That makes so much more sense. LOL

My point stands though. If the ACA worked how we wanted then healthcare in this country would be a lot better.

Because deregulation has worked so well in the past.

Dangit dude, I've put up with the, "Give socialism one more chance; we'll do it right this time." crowd enough that I get to pull the trick for once, haha.

I'm pretty sure that Americans haven't implemented free healthcare by now because they understand the concept of government inefficiency and also understand the concept of free market competition making healthcare cost less for more people. Btw the United States makes most of the healthcare advances because of this free market which financially incentivizes people to spend time investigating breakthroughs in healthcare.

True story: I have relatives who live close to the border and travel to Mexico to take advantage of its health care. Maybe we should . . . I dunno . . . BUILD A WALL to keep them here in our free market?

True Story: my grandpa went to Mexico for his dental implants and had to have them replaced because it wasn't put in right.

Ouch! Poor guy. According to Healthline.com, some 5 - 10% of implants do fail.

I think it's also that we (as a society) are comfortable with a certain amount of Dickensian misery provided it's suffered by poor people and people of color.

Jesus didn't force people to give to others; he said to do it voluntarily out of free will. I get that some people have lower quality healthcare than others, and the picture of Jesus reminded me that I probably shouldn't be saying things out of anger frustration. We may have different political views, but I still feel that America got to where it is today because it didn't have a socialist-leaning society. Btw did you watch the video? I'm just curious.

and yet the so called Christians are the primary ones denying people healthcare... go figure. And re "where America is today".... if you mean way behind many nations and where she could be... then we agree.

That article you shared is literally just propaganda. If you're not willing to listen to the other side, then I'm assuming your goal is to just tear down the other side rather than seek out truth.
