If you want that last part to be true, then you need to acknowledge the history of this country, and how specific groups have been deliberately oppressed. How that has left those groups at an economic disadvantage that is incredibly hard to overcome.

I'll remind you I have never excluded myself from being racist. I know that I was raised in a system built by racists and have internalized many racists attitudes and behaviors. It takes a lot of self-awareness and questioning to be able to find them.

It's a common rule in rhetoric that the past tense is the worst in which to operate because it does nothing but assign blame. The present is for debating morals and ideas, but it also fails to accomplish much because you can't make changes to the present. The future tense is the most important, as Aristotle noted, because unlike the other two you can change the future. So too with life; instead of living out this CRT fantasy and living in the past, we should instead be mindful of the past and ensure our policy in the future treats everyone equally.
