My father was born in the hills of northeastern Alabama in a log cabin with dirt floors. My family comes from a long line of poor substance farmers. In his teenage years he picked cotton. When he graduated high school he left home and moved to the city. This was during the Great Depression.

Could someone please explain to me about his white privilege?

He ended up running his own plumbing business but most of the time he was the only employee in his business. He did well enough to put me through college back when college was still affordable to the middle class. Once Obama nationalized student loans tutition became affordable only to the super rich.

Oh, they'll tell you about how everything was handed everything to him because of his level of melanin and other fairy tales. Or deflect to others that went through hard times in an effort to negate the experiences he went through.

That's for sure. Compared to my father I have had a privileged life but that doesn't mean I haven't had to work my butt off just to make ends meet.

But that's the American dream, isn't it. If you work your butt off you can make a good life for yourself, and it makes absolutely no difference what race you are.

The woman in this picture, you should learn her history.

And then I want you to ask yourself; what happened to the Black families at this same time?

Was anyone there to take their pictures and then publish them in a San Francisco magazine?

Or were the already-marginalized Black Americans pushed further away from the few remaining agricultural jobs during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl?

Funny how you're not concerned about black Americans being negatively impacted in employment by the illegal immigrants in California today.

I am no more or less concerned by that than any other demographic being impacted by migrant farm laborers. What I am concerned about is how little they get paid and how terrible the working conditions are.

Which is why the farm industry depends on the migrant work force- legal or otherwise. The pay is shit and the work is gruelling.

Not the gotcha you thought it was going to be, was it?

I'm not talking farm employment. Many are pushed out of jobs like in the fast food industry because they don't speak Spanish.

Oh, in that case, it sounds like yet another problem with capitalism. The capitalists are exploiting workers even more by hiring undocumented immigrants.

This is neither the fault of the undocumented nor the workers they are displacing.

If only there was a way we could deal with these capitalists effectively.

Put em against the wall, right?

No need to go full commie, even though capitalism isn't perfect but regulations that are followed through with would help. I admit that both Republicans and Democrats exploit the situation for their own gains.
