did your one minute search find any links to the studies referenced that were "stopped early due to safety concerns"?

Doctors from all over the globe were reporting success with hydroxychloroquine for people at early stages of the china flu, corporate media banned those doctors.

cdc banned it as soon as trump started talking about it.

cdc then lifted the ban less than one hour after mitch mcconnel "conceded" the election

cdc didn't do ANY testing on the drug during the months they had banned it

cdc didn't make any announcements about it, just a little note on their website

95% in that one sample from NYC was by people of color. I don't think we can generalize to all of the hate crimes, but yes, people of any ethnic group are capable of racism and xenophobia. Your skin color isn't a free pass when you make a comment that can incite racist violence -- no one's is.

you can pretty much "generalise" when it comes to "hate" crime ...they're "generally" committed by Black people.

95% of the attacks on Asian Americans were carried out by Black people. Just like most (I don't have exact figures) hate crimes carried out against Jews are by Black people ...but "white supremacy" still gets the blame!?

It's destructive and Drumpf continues to make America look bad to the rest of the world.

Hate crimes can be done by any group. I'm going to doubt those statistics (except the narrow slice where it's borne out -- the NYC analysis) until you give hard facts.

History is filled with racist terms for things: French pox, Dutch courage and a million others that I won't repeat . . . every one of us gets to choose whether to align themselves with the forces of hateful ignorance by using them, or to reject hate and xenophobia. We all have to live with the personal and societal karma.

So -- today -- you get a clean slate, a chance not to use those slurs. Will you take it?

There were a whole bunch of those terms in English that date from the 16th - 18th century when the English were very invested in portraying the Dutch as cheap and drunk.

My "accusation"? again, you're making up fairy-tales here

It's not Trump supporters attacking Asians, the attacks are predominately happening in Democrat areas, and carried out by Black people ..so excuse me if i count them as being on your side!

You can say Spanish flu because Spaniards are white but you cannot say the Hispanic or Latin flu because those people are... also white but the left doesn't recognize the white Hispanics and Latinos.

You also can't say "Latinx" because that is not a real word and you'll only get laughed by people with Latin ancestry, ya know, Italians, French, Romanians, Portuguese and of course Spanish.

Yes, the left in their effort to screw up the English language miss the fact that Latinos are the people who speak any Latin based language. There is so much Latin in the English language you can almost call the English Latinos.

OMG are you trying to say George Zimmerman killed Trayvon Martin in self-defense? You heard the 911 call. He was told to stop following the kid. First Obama is mixed so he's not allowed to say he's black. But George Zimmerman, who is obviously mixed and whose name doesn't sound ethnic at all, is only Hispanic? He doesn't get to identify be identified as caucasian? You can't have it both ways, sorry.

Zimmerman should have just gone home. He was very much overstepping his bounds.

However that does not excuse Trayvon's actions either. Trayvon was bashing Zimmerman's head on the sidewalk when Zimmerman shot him. So, yes, it was self-defense.

Maybe you don't know what ethnic means but all surnames are ethnic. Zimmerman is German and German Jewish.
0 ups, 4y,

But we don't know what Trayvon's actions were because Zimmerman was the only witness. You're going by his word when he's since been arrested for pointing a double-barrell shotgun at one girlfriend in 2013 and throwing a wine bottle at another in 2015?
[deleted]
0 ups, 4y
It was pretty easy for the doctor to determine that Zimmerman's head was being smashed on the cement.

This is just like the cop that shot the black girl while she was stabbing another black girl. The media saw "white cop shoots black girl" and that is all that mattered. The same with Zimmerman. It is the race obsession the left and their news media has.

Every single time a white person, and especially a white cop, shoots a black person it is going to make the national news. If the races are reversed you'll be lucky to hear about it in the local news paper, never on local TV news. Far more whites are killed by cops than blacks. Of those killed by cops only a very small number (single digits) are unarmed, the rest are armed.

When you deny where it came from you lose much more credibility. Like how Cuomo calls it the "European flu".

Just in case you missed it, China is not a race, it's a country and a very corrupt and evil country at that. Chinese people are mostly of the same race but they aren't the country. No one is saying "the flu of the Asiatic people from China".

You're contradicting yourself, though. China is a country. But you're saying China is an evil country. Chinese people aren't the country then who is? Now if you really think all Chinese people are corrupt and evil then carry on, I guess.

Oh perhaps I did but what I am saying that calling the virus the China flu is not about the people of China. It is about geography. No one thought that the Spanish flu was about the Spaniards. It was about where the virus came from.

There are a few idiots who are harassing Chinese people over this but they are idiots. This isn't a left vs right issue, this is a common sense vs stupidity issue. If you are attacking Chinese people because where the virus originated then you are stupid.

I can't speak to what the people did in 1910 or whenever it was the Spanish flu happened. But when you have the President of the United States, one of the greatest countries in the world, saying things like the "Kung flu" or the "Chinese virus," even after everyone in the world was informed that it's called the coronavirus or covid-19, that's when it gets irresponsible. And then the attacks against Asians goes up 800% and he's still doing it, and so are his followers? And they're saying it with a sort of evil smirk, it's almost as if people want Asians to get attacked.

Calling it the Wuhans merely gives it a name. If you cry 'racist' it just means that you don't have anything else meaningful to bring to the discussion.
1 up, 4y
It's GOT a name, though, an official one that most of the free world uses. It's the coronavirus. Why are people making that preference to call it a name which designates where it came from if it's got an official name? It's not as casual as all that. It's a conscious decision to wade into racist territory knowing full well calling it that is taboo at this point. For many, maybe not you, but for many, they're saying it with full hatred of Asians or specifically, Chinese people.

Here's an article that unpacks the name, with citations: https://theconversation.com/donald-trumps-chinese-virus-the-politics-of-naming-136796
[deleted]
1 up, 4y
That is clearly an opinion article either that or it is just another example of biased journalism. It was written as a hit piece on Trump saying he sat on his hands in the early days of the virus. So what was he supposed to do when he had about the same information that we all had around that time? And considering that there is a 99% survival rate of this virus Trump actually did waaaaay too much. He should have never put Fauci in charge. He was unqualified. We shouldn't have done anything. No lock down, no masks, no social distancing, nothing. We should have just ignored this virus and we most likely would have had the exact same death rate from it.

I almost laughed when I read this: "This is a seemingly common-sense justification – after all, the virus did originate in China." Yes it is a "seemingly common-sense justification" but they decided to opposed common-sense so they can play up the racism aspect of it.

"The expressions “Chinese virus” and “Wuhan virus” personify the threat." Also absurd. It "countryfies" or "citifies" the virus. It does not "personify" the virus. We we named the virus after the person who discovered it in China then it would personify the virus but only to that person.

If this article was specifically talking about the small handful of idiots who are harassing and beating (I think I heard someone got beaten because they were Chinese. Perhaps you know, I just don't remember) then I would agree with some of the assertions. To those morons apparently it did "personify" the virus. But the article is a hit piece on Trump and conservatives, not the 2 or 3 idiots.

I have no way to prove this but I would tend to think that those who are harassing the Chinese would have to be leftists. Leftists are notorious for seeing a guy sitting in a park or at the beach without a mask and no one around for thousands of feet and going right up to the person to yell at them. It is just the next logical conclusion that there would be a small handful of idiots on the left who would go after the Chinese (or other Asian persdon who they mistake for Chinese).

I really don't care one way or the other about what the virus is called. I have always called it the coronavirus or COVID, on occasion SARS2 or just "the virus". Gov Cuomo is an idiot for calling it the "European virus" but then he's just a murderous idiot to begin with.

The fact is we're not totally sure where the coronavirus came from. The first KNOWN case was in Wuhan and they think it started with bats but it's all speculation. It very well could've come from somewhere else like the Spanish flu did.

The official name covid-19 was announced February of last year. But the orange cheeto wanted to keep calling it the Kung Flu and the Chinese virus because he's an @sshole and he likes singling out and vilifying certain people. In light of all the attacks on Asians, you would think at some point at least the intelligent Trumpers would start calling it the coronavirus.

Funny how those black Trumpers are attacking Asians on both coasts. Ask the Asians who is attacking them.
0 ups, 4y
No pretty much everyone called it AIDS. In LA it was often known by the Latin acronym SIDA. Pretty much it was thought of as a gay disease as mostly only openly gay people contracted it initially, until Magic Johnson got it. The phobia was real, with his own teammates saying they didn’t want to play with him because they were afraid he might sweat or bleed on them.

That has nothing to do with using regional names for the flu. It’s from Wuhan so China Virus or Wuhan Flu are perfect descriptive terms to denote which flu or virus, of the many there are, it is. Don’t look It up and tell me the scientific name for the common flu. Many people don’t use the scientific name. Almost no one uses SARS except in written stories.

just like they called it xenophobic when he stopped flights coming in from China, remember that? That was the common sense thing to do, would you agree? ... Did they call it xenophobic when biden closed down flights from India? no, double standards, that's what YOU get from following corporate media. Here's the problem. It is that HCQ is "not safe" or not effective. The meme says "not safe" and that is a load of hogwash. It has been available for 70 years in the US. It is used to treat arthritis. I know this because my sister has been taking it everyday for years. She's never suffered any side effects. Several countries sell it over the counter.

If it not effective then that is a different argument.

On top of that doctors who have treating COVID-19 patients with HCQ use HCQ in combination with other drugs. It the combination of drugs that has been showing a great deal of success.

So while HCQ is less effective by itself it is safe for the vast majority of people. Of course there will always be a very small percentage who are allergic to it just like any other drug.

So where ever you got this text they worded it very poorly if they were serious. I'm guessing that they intentionally worded it that way because it is scarier to say a drug is not safe.

HCQ is a very inexpensive treatment that is about as effective as the vaccine. The problem is that big Pharma and the government can't get rich by selling HCQ.

Then there's the other problem. Trump mentioned it and that made the left more insane. And when the left get even more insane people gotta die.
