I know where Mexico is. I've been there. My mother-in-law was born and raised there. I am talking about the people who immigrated to Mexico and all of the other Hispanic countries in Central and South America. Spain is in Europe. Spaniards (as well as just about every other nation in Europe) immigrated to Mexico, Central and South America. Therefore, Mexicans, Guatemalans, Hondurans, Peruvians, Argentinians and all other Spanish speaking countries in the Americas are descendants of Europeans, just like us "white people" in the United States of America.
Most of the surnames in the Spanish speaking countries in the Americas are Spanish in origin but you will find German, French, Italian, English and other European surnames A common surname found in Mexico and other countries is Bettencourt. Bettencourt is French not Spanish.
The Hispanic actor, Hector Elizando has a Basque surname. The Hispanic actor, Ruben Blades, has and English surname.
The same type of immigration from Europe happened to ALL of the Americas. But because England owned what became the USA and Canada mostly people from the UK immigrated to those countries. Spain owned Mexico, Central America and most of South America so mostly Spanish immigrated there. Portugal owned Brazil and you will find a lot of Portuguese surnames there.
