I don’t speak for the United States because we have people to do that. I grew up during the last part of the Cold War and I seem to remember Reagan being pretty diplomatic with Gorbachev about the whole thing. He didn’t say “Tear down this wall or else.” Even when there was an indication of a launch he called Gorbachev to see what was going on before things got ugly. I think Gorbachev was done with the whole mess because the system just wasn’t working out like they had planned. That’s how it usually goes with communist states, they think it’s all rainbows and unicorns until they find themselves on the wrong side of a firing squad.
