lots and lots of background checks, make sure someone is going to be using the gun as self defense or to hunt. even then, its hard to know when someone has a change of mind and uses it illegally. we need to figure out something though, thats up to the government.

A background check has nothing to do with how you are going to use a firearm. A background check insures that you are not a felon or been adjudicated mentally ill it may also see restraining orders if it has been reported to the FBI.

The problem with the NICS National Instant background Check System is that many times things are not reported in a timely manner to the FBI. (ie, the South Carolina Church shooting.)

Your mental health records are also protected by HIPPA, and the law states that you must be adjudicated, not just have seen a councillor. Are you willing to have your rights curtailed without due process?

Canada has high gun control and less VIOLENT crime. The key word here is violent. A country can have more crime, but less violent crime.
Many countries with high gun control have less violent crime.
While i don't think guns should be banned OUTRIGHT, there should be a bit more restrictions on who is allowed to get them.

America in a sense already has gun control. Gun violence in American is mostly caused by gang violence anyway which usually get their guns from theft or the black market.
