Systemic racism is real. Also the stats you presented are out of context. White people get shot more by police but a white person is not more likely to be shot by police. You forget that white people are 60% of the population and black people are only 13%. All variables must be considered if you are going to use statistics to debate.

I don't have a WSJ subscription so I couldn't read too far. If you considered that variable than why is it not in the statistic you posted? just admit that you took a statistic out of context

The statement was that more whites are killed by police than any race. Yeah, no duh. Whites are ~60% of the population; that's as obvious as saying "blacks are killed by more blacks than anyone else." Population density and distribution causes it to be so.

However, when one takes the number of dead, and divides it by the total population (of race for each), one finds that blacks are killed by police at a rate higher than any other race.

I do not care about republication statements, I especially do not care about democrat statements, I care about true statements.

Very simply match the percentage of involvement in Criminal activity by race. The 13/50 example is appropriate.Those who are involved in criminal activity are more likely to interact with police negatively and the more they interact the greater opportunity for bad outcomes.

Police get called to more situations for some people groups than others. As a result, more people getting shot, is tied to the 911 calls immediately preceding that. White people get shot more, but per capita, black commit more violent crimes and end up in situations where they get shot.

Look at Chicago. If a black person is shot. You cannot use the "black people are shot at a disproportionately higher rate then white people" line.

That's not what we're talking about though. Percentages would level that out as well however.

More blacks have been murdered by other blacks in Chicago in one year than have been shot by police while unarmed in a decade.

Next look up who commits the majority of violent crimes and is more likely, as a result, to be shot because of it. Then the math works out even worse for that group.

Well...the left paint it with a broad brush and call it racist. Why and how the person was shot they do not care. If a black person was shot nowadays, it doesn't matter what the circumstance is, there is just outrage.

Math teacher here! You need to review your Ratios and Proportions. In 2017, approximately 1/2 as many Black people were shot by police. The Black US population is about 1/5 of the white population, so that means they are getting shot 250% more often IN PROPORTION TO THEIR NUMBERS.

The math isn't racist. The systemic racism is.

A couple things:

1. The numbers are by count and not ratio. Take the numbers of all black people and white people in the US and THERE IS a disproportionate rate. But what about the population make-up of race in that area where the shooting occurs? There is not that big of a gap. Also consider the crime rate per race. Take murder/manslaughter for example. They are neck and neck between white vs black. So when looking at crime and criminals, there isn't a large disparity.

2. On math is racist i was leaning on the article I read a couple weeks ago about Oregon proposing a teaching program that talks how getting correct answers in math and showing your work is rooted in white supremacy. I'll see if i can find the article.

MATH doesn't say that people are getting shot; that's the news. The number of Black people getting charged with crimes has to come with an asterisk, since there's good social science to show that Blacks greater rate of conviction and incarceration DOES NOT reflect a greater rate of criminality, but instead biased enforcement.
