Math is racist? Well no but actually yes | image tagged in y'all need science | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
One of the great science communicators and I always love to see him in memes.

However, the idea anyone on the Left said math is racist lacks foundation. That’s reductive. Math itself is perfectly value-neutral and doesn’t care about human constructs and concerns.

But is the way math taught racist? Can be. We were all taught, basically, that math comes from the work of a few dead white European geniuses. That it all comes from “Western civilization.” However, every civilization used math. It’s basic and necessary to function in the world at any level of complexity. What I have read about is educators suggesting things like:

—Design more projects around problems like how the Egyptians built the pyramids, because that shit is cool and impressive to this day.
—Design problems around what methods the Aztecs and Incas would have used to build their cities and monuments.
—Challenge students to consider how the Chinese used math to tax and plan public works projects to help keep a civilization of millions fed and supplied for thousands of years continuously.
—Query how Polynesians used the stars to navigate.
—Etc. Etc.

Why not? I can’t imagine Neil Degrasse Tyson would object to any of this. I think he’d support it as a way of helping keep students of every background engaged in the material.

With only this comment of yours as a basis for comparison, I'm going to go out on a limb and say that when it comes to intellect, you couldn't carry NdG's spit bucket.

It's an expression... a figure of speech... not to be taken literally. It means more than likely that you've about 1/10th his intelligence . Try to keep up.

Good one Chad!

I'm still going with the guy who says the earth is pear shaped, being the smart guy.

I've heard this crap before, and always wrote it off for what I assumed it to be... ignorant people taking a statement out of context, then plastering it all over the interwebs in an attempt to make themselves feel/seem smarter than they likely are.

But thanks to you Chad, I decided to see if I could find exactly what he said. (thank you Chad! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OeWTrEA5fE) Of course, what's in the video is too long to fit on a meme, but the highlights include:

- the earth is an oblate spheroid, and slightly chubbier below the equator than it is above it.
- the summit of a 20K foot mountain in Ecuador is farther from the center of the earth than the summit of Mt. Everest.
- cosmically speaking, and due to its size, the earth is practically a smooth, perfect sphere.

So take what you want, and sure, go ahead and have some fun with it. No harm there.

I just hope you're not ignorant enough to be one of those people trying to make themselves feel smarter by trying to make fun of the 'pear shaped earth' bullshit flying around the internet.

Wow... you really went above and beyond to secure an argument huh? He's still a blubbering puppet that sticks to the script he's given. & Yes, the claim about earth being pear shaped comes out of his mouth along with a stammering unconfident explanation to make him appear even less knowledgeable. Not boutta argue... anyone reading can look it up for themselves on YouTube if seriously interested in "who's right or who's wrong". I'm sure they know how to operate a search engine. Have a good day sir

So now you are claiming to somehow have knowledge that what he said about a pear shaped earth is "unconfident", hey?

Still not going to address any fact regarding this, hey?

I really enjoy exchanging comments with people who literally have no fcuking clue what they're talking about. Yes, it's been a pleasure and I hope that you too, have a good day.
