It sure doesn't. If the school system insists on implementing mask mandates, the logical instruction would be to have children place the mask in their laps while playing their wind instruments. A torn or cut open mask is worthless for wearing once they are finished performing, and does absolutely nothing while they are.

The effect is roughly the same as wearing no mask at all, well in the best case scenario.
Now I've seen a lot of ridiculous measures when it comes to combating COVID19, but this really is idiotic. Of course, if the facemasks work and don't worsen the problem is a discussion on its own, but even the biggest face mask guru could not deny this is senseless.

If they really want to curb the spread, they should have everyone be 6 feet apart. But that wouldn’t work, so maybe they’d do it virtually. But that would not be as interesting. But that mask is simply worthless. If they’re just going to do that, why even bring a mask in the first place? What is that even covering?
