The left has been constantly demonized since the knights of labor formed--in the 1800s. The communists were forced out of the labor movement during the new deal, relentless allegations of communism flowed from the house un-american activities committee destroying careers and resulting in blacklisting, every significant social leader on the left was executed (King, X, Newton, etc) or marginalized (Robeson, Ture, etc) and labeled fringe and extreme.
