It was 2 stores, but 25% sounds more extreme. One of them I frequent. It is tiny (by today's standards, it would have been average in the mid 80s), so I'm sure it's profit margins were slim to begin with. Store are not going to stay open if they operate at a loss. That's just how it is.

Stores close all the time due to market pressures, but when those pressures are created artificially by the government were supposed to pretend they do not exist?

Also, the tiny Ralph's closing in Long Beach (Los Coyotes diagonal location) is less than a block from a mega size Vons. And I have shopped there, but usually not. The prices at that location were already too high. They couldn't raise prices anymore to compensate for inflated wages.

true but you are missing the point if they force companies to pay more than they can afford without compromising profits they are just flat out going to close like the 2 stores you mentioned, it will spread like wild fire, and then it will not just be 2, it will be too many.
