Covid deaths are a trailing statistic that doesn't always mirror new cases. This is because if you test positive for covid and you happen to be one of the unfortunate who will die from it, it generally does not happen instantly.
If the number of daily new cases peaks and begins to decline, it can create a situation (such as this) where daily new cases are declining but daily deaths are actually still increasing. In a week or 2 I would expect daily deaths to reverse and begin declining along with the daily new cases.
The reverse of this is also true. (new cases could begin to spike and go up again as deaths are still on the decline.)
