I'm just calling out double standards and condemning abortion.

A black majority in the U.S is neither good nor bad, just like a white majority or any other.

I disagree with you. Life begins at conception. A baby/fetus has a heartbeat at one month after conception.

Fetus is just Latin for baby.

Who cares?

I wonder how many precious lives you've killed with birth control?

If you don't have 15 kids and your wife/you is now barren, you have no right to have this opinion because it would be hypocritical.

I believe life starts with the conception of a child.

And like I said, that allows us to feel like we lived a life that is more guilt free. It allows us to believe that other people, are less moral with lower moral values, which makes us feel we are of higher moral values. It's a win, win, to believe as you do. At least it is for you.

This is internal, shaped over many years as people develop ideas of right and wrong. You keep believing as you do. I don't pretend I will ever change that.

So you're trying to justify abortions? -_-

Life begins at conception. Stopping the sperm from meeting the egg is done before conception, ergo your point is invalid.

How does birth control kill babies what are you talking about? No one wants you to have 15 kids if you don't want them.

Even the bible states that it is a sin to spill your seed on the ground.

All I'm saying is that if you don't have 15 kids, you've done your own share of baby killing in your own way and you shouldn't throw stones.

I believe in birth control and the right to abortion because they are the same thing. Conception is just a word. It's not magic.

Dogs, cat's, even pigs conceive. It's what mammals do. Just because we have more intelligence and created birth control, that's still stopping the birth just as surely as abortion.

I believe an unborn baby has a soul. But you might not I don't think I should be forced to pay for it.

Yeah, that's a thought and that works for some people.

One positive, the number of abortions is much lower than it used to be.
No one wants an abortion.

Pay for what? An abortion?

Would you rather pay for an unwanted child through to adulthood?

75% of those seeking abortion, are poor. 75% would need federal help through some or all of childhood. Children also make mothers more likely to live in poverty, so now we also have to pay for their lives in poverty too.

We've created the mental construct that conception is the line in the sand. It's not valid. We made it up. We created the line in the sand to feel better about the lives we lead.

Where in the bible does it say that?

Genesis 38:8-10
Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother's wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother.” But Onan knew that the offspring would not be his. So whenever he went in to his brother's wife he would waste the semen on the ground, so as not to give offspring to his brother. And what he did was wicked in the sight of the Lord, and he put him to death also.

Basically, I believe Onan was killed because he took advantage of the system (however messed up I think it is). I think his brother's wife would have never slept with him but to bear a child (something about honor).
0 ups, 3y
It sounds like she slept with him numerous times. I don't think that belief holds up if this is the case.

Maybe that's why God killed him. I'm not an expert in the story.
0 ups, 3y
I think (in the story) God killed him for having sex however many times with her in a way that would not create a baby. I noticed in your initial reply you phrased it as "spilled" semen... But in the passage it specifically uses the word "waste" to describe what he did with his semen... If he had done only oral or anal sex with her I think it would have essentially been the same problem in the eyes of God.
Idk.. I'm also no expert on the story.

I agree with this source on that "Onan was killed because he refused to perform his familial duties of producing offspring for his brother as was required." Not because of his spilled semen.
1 up, 3y
I agree. God wanted a particular bloodline and Onan tried to defy God by performing coitus interruptus, so when and why he did it was the reason for his punishment.
0 ups, 3y
I apologize for the explicit/graphic nature of all this but based on your comment, I'm not sure you understand that bible story.

Onan was supposed to sleep with his dead brother's wife in order to create a child...in his honor or something like that. ( and I mean.. Wow... but moving on)

Apparently Onan wasn't into the idea of having babies with his dead brother's wife but sleeping with her was totally cool... So he would refuse to impregnate her by "pulling out" and wasting his semen on the ground when they did the deed.

His "refusal" in this story is "wasting his semen on the ground"...... They are the same thing.

So saying he was killed for one but not the other just doesn't make sense.

Oh, you said the magic word!

What on earth would everyone on the right do to sleep at night were it not for the magic word?

There is less chance of stopping the birth of a real life child if a 45yr old woman has an abortion, vs an 18yr old healthy couple having sex using a condom.

They both do the same thing but your magic word makes it all okay. It's the most hypocritical position in our modern world of, "birth control" but the magic word makes jerking off in your hand, using condoms and every form of birth control under the sun, all okay.

It's literally called, "birth control".

Exactly what do you think that means?

It means, controlling the birth of unwanted children.

what are you talking about? birth control prevents the fertilization from ever happening. the life hasn't started, so it can't be ended.

You can't get life from something that is not alive. Sperm is alive. Eggs are alive.

Are we exempt from procreation because we are intelligent enough to invent birth control?

gametes are not true living things because they act on behalf of the organism they're inside and are controlled by its bodily systems. they have no more of a life than the cheek cells you shed when you spit. an embryo, however, is more like the bacteria in your digestive tract, in that it acts completely for itself.

I don't expect that I'm going to change your mind. I've explained how I feel about this subject. You're not changing my mind either.

An additional element, my opinion does not effect how you live in any way. Your opinion and laws created to support it, would force and control other people with bigger government and greater government control over women.

If you don't want an abortion, don't have one. Forcing other people to develop the same moral philosophy as you and government sanctioned control to make sure that happens, is a bit too much like Taliban control to me.
0 ups, 3y
Your comparison is false equivalence. Arguing against something and making a meme is a far cry from forcing people to do something on pain of drawn-out painful death.
0 ups, 3y
By that logic women are killing people every time they have their period and men are killing people every time they have a wet dream.

There's a difference between a zygote which is a developing human being with their own DNA and the gametes that can't form a human being until they combine.
